hito started out as a tiny tienda specializing in heirloom-quality jewelry and useful and unusual homeware located in Pollenca, Mallorca.
Recently, we have moved our location and are now located in the Teixits Vicens Museum on the Calvario Steps.
We are collaborating with Teixits Vicens to create new designs and textiles for hito.
We are also working on collaborations with artists and craftsmen from Mallorca specializing in handmade things for the home- things made with a conscience and made specially for hito.
hito means "landmark, monument, marker, cairn" and can be a literal marker, like a pile of stones on a trail, or a life event such as a birth.
The store is a carefully curated collection of utilitarian objects and textiles that serve as markers in daily life; candles, teapots, duvets, scarves, aprons and towels. The idea being that daily rituals can be hitos if one uses artful tools.
WHO WE ARE:
Owners Gillian Conroy and Danica Wilcox have run a successful jewelry business-Conroy & Wilcox jewelry- in New York City for the past 7 years. hito is an independently-owned, Mallorca-based company and their first store.
WHY POLLENCA:
In 2010 Danica Wilcox fell in love with the Tramuntana mountains and the artisanal traditions of Mallorca while visiting to work on an organic farm. Wilcox spent much of 2011 dreaming of how to relocate so she could live and work in Pollenca, Mallorca. In March she made the move and hito opened it's doors May 19th, 2012.
